We had a wonderful 1 year anniversary. The day of we work up and went to church, we decided not to do anything that day because we bought tickets to see RENT 2 weeks after our anniversary to celebrate. However, we still ended up going out to a nice diner at Geko's Garden. It was delicious, we went all out, starters, main course, wine, and dessert! We spent well more than expected but we thoroughly enjoyed a romantic meal.
Then 2 weeks passed quickly, and soon it was time for RENT. We went out with the Heils, Mark and Malia, another couple at school; he teaches high school computer as she stays at home with their 1 year old daughter. We started the evening with a fun meal at The Bungalow. It has a great atmosphere, there are small rooms to eat in, some with couches, some with floor seating, and even one with sand on the floor and you sit in swings! We got the room with the couch. The meal was amazing, we had ;burgers and large skewers full of meat! After dinner we took the subway toward the KBS Hall which is where the show was. However once we came up from the subway station we weren't too sure where to go. We asked two girls who just happened to speak English, and just happened to be headed to the same place! So they told our cab driver where to go in Korean, it was very helpful, otherwise we would have been late.
RENT, 525,600 minutes... It was great! The 2 main guys in the show were the original actors (also the ones in the movie). The music was ridiculous! There were only about 7 musicians who played the entire set, and they were on the stage the entire time, kind of backed into a corner. And yes, it was in English. There were two large screens at the front of the theatre that displayed subtitles in Korean. So those times when we could barely hear what the actor/actress said, the Koreans would BURST out laughing because they knew from reading it. Something else that was interesting was the Koreans clapped EVERY TIME 2 characters came on stage: the girl who plays the lesbian, the guy who plays the transexual. I'm still not sure why. Oh, and don't get dressed up to go to a show in Korea. There were several people with sweat pants and t-shirts, or jeans and t-shirts. We dressed up a little, as if going to Church.
Anyways, the show was awesome, I don't know how else to descibe it. It was a wonderful night and a great way to celebrate one year of marriage!
