Location is Key

Well, we made it. After an hour and half flight to Chicago then, what was supposed to be a 14 our flight that turned into a 17 hour flight due to fuel problems before take off, to Seoul.

Our first two nights we stayed in Capital Hotel.
The bed was rock solid, the television was all in Korean, the room was cold at night and hot in the mornings. However, we did not have too bad of a time dealing with the time difference. The first night we slept 6 hours and the second about 8 hours. Where as one of the girls only slept 5 hours the first 2 days put together. We are staying on a schedule of going to bed around 9 and waking up around 6, so we will be prepared to wake up early for school.

Tonight will be our first night in our house. We live on the third floor, with the Parrish family (Seth, Robin and their 3 children) living below us. We live at the dead end of an alley, right behind a church. Apparently during the summers you can hear them singing. We have 3 rooms, one bathroom, a living area, a kitchen, a small laundry room, and a balcony. Tim made a video, sorry we couldn't edit it.

It is beginning to feel like home, but we are lacking a lot of decorations. We live in a neighborhood (nothing like a neighborhood in the states) called Bokwang-Dong. The bus stop where the bus picks us up for school is about a 2 minute walk, the closest subway station, called Itawon Yung (yung meaning station) is about a 5 minute walk. Then anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes we have a DC mart(has everything from face wash to tools to drying racks to irons), a pizza place called Pizza School, a bakery called Paris Baguette, a grocery store that delivers to your door if you spend over 30,000 Won (= to about 29 dollars). There are a lot of market type places to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, and pork.

We feel comfortable in our neighborhood, there are some other couples that live within a 10 minute walk from our house. Also, the school is not but about 15 minutes away! Then in the opposite direction of the school and the subway station there is a short tunnel for pedestrians to get to the riverside walkway, great for walking, running, and biking; it is about a 10 minute walk.

Oh another good part about our house is that there is a Cold Stone Creamery, a KFC, McDonalds, and Quiznos about a 5 minute walk away! We have it made. Although I am starting to like Korean food.

We have spent the day cleaning and organizing the house and here are some pictures of what it looks like with a little decoration:

Well I hope this gives you a good idea of our location. Come visit!

  1. Annyong! I like the tour! It makes me want to visit! I wish I could have seen more up close detail of that waterproof bathroom though, I thought I saw a glimpse of some pink flowered tiles! Ralph says hi, he got a bath yesterday and was wondering where Kristin was to help him dry off. (oo, that sounds dirty if you didn't know Ralph was a dog!)
