About a week and a half ago we found out that we would be hosting the middle school swim meet. All of the schools were supposed to go to SIS, however that would have been over 230 students participating. So to keep us from being at a swim meet all day, we volunteered our school to host 1/2 of the swimmers at our pool. So we had 4 other teams attend our swim meet, which totaled the students to about 110. --By the way in middle school it is non-competitive, the swimmers swim to improve their times. Also they do not get DQ-ed (disqualified), they merely get suggestions on things to change.
We stayed at school til 10:30 on Friday night getting last minute things put together for the meet; then turned around and were back up at school at 6:50am Saturday Morning. About an hour later the swimmers began showing up. The meet began at 9 and we told everyone that it should be over around 12:30 or 1. Well, Timmy was on top of it! He ran things VERY well. We ended up finishing around 11!! The meet does not include a lot of races, mainly 200 medley relay, 100 IM, 100 Free, 200 Free relay, and a 50 of each stroke. However, with this being several of the swimmer's first meet we expected there to be some confusion, or something. Fortunately Timmy had covered all of his tracks! Tim "hired" some of the high school swimmers to help coach the middle schoolers. So, for the meet, he put 1-2 high schoolers in charge of 8 of the middle schoolers. The high schoolers had to make sure their swimmers got to every race on time. I was the go-to person for the swimmers, in case they had any questions or problems. Timmy was the announcer and starter for the entire meet. Then the aquatics assistant, Sam, made sure the timing system was running smoothly. We had about 15 teachers volunteer to help out as well.
All this just to say GOOD JOB Timmy!!! I am very proud of how well he made the meet run!
After the meet we had a few hours before the cross country banquet. The banquet was held at the school and was catered by On The Boarder! It was delicious. For the banquet I put together a 17 minute slide show video of the runners through out the season. We watched the video as we ate, then Mr. Parrish gave a short speech and told of awards for some of the students; most nicknames, Guardian award, Coaches award, Spirit award, etc. Then at the end of the night the students gave each coach a gift. It was a large card which they had all written thank you's and each got a pair of white Reebock shoes that the runners had written all over saying, Thank yous, go guardians, etc.
It was a great day, however very tiring! So for now we are just going to rest.
WOW! Sounds like Timmy did an amazing job. I can totally see him running it just perfectly--and how fun that he got to be the announcer! Way to go, Tim! Wish we could have been there to cheer!
